Is Porn Company FlavaWorks Copying the Blatino Erotica Awards?

Palm Springs CA - They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, however, “Blatino Erotica Awards” creator Joe Hawkins, is not impressed by FlavaWorks similarly named upcoming “FlavaMen Blatino Awards.”

Hawkins (who is African American) said that FlavaWorks Inc. ( which is white owned) copied the name of his awards event by naming their event "FlavaMen Blatino Awards" which is so similar to the "Blatino Erotica Awards", that it is causing confusion in the industry and among fans about who is producing what.

In 2007, long time California based African American event producer Joe Hawkins, created an event celebrating men of color called Blatino Oasis, that is held annually during the month of May in Palm Springs, California. Blatino Oasis also held the first ever Blatino Erotica Awards ceremony in Palm Springs California, recognizing men of color involved in the erotic entertainment industry. Since its inception, Blatino Erotica Award honorees have included: Tiger Tyson, Mario Cruz, Marc Williams, Eddie Diaz, Sebastion Rio, Author James Earl Hardy, Erotic illustrator Belasco, actor and dancer Marcus Patrick, websites- Bilatinmen.com and Papithugz.com. FlavaMen Magazine has also been recognized.

“I have no objections to Flavaworks creating an awards ceremony to honor men of color in erotica, the more the merrier. As a man of color, the very reason behind my creating the Blatino Erotica Awards three years ago was to ensure that more of these men be recognized for their contributions to the erotic entertainment industry. I only wish that FlavaWorks Inc. would have been more creative with the naming of their event and showed me and my organization some professional respect so that their would be no confusion about our respective awards ceremonies.” Hawkins said.
