Hillary Clinton Wins

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton scored comeback primary wins in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island Tuesday night, denting Barack Obama's delegate lead in a riveting Democratic presidential race. Arizona Sen. John McCain, an unflinching supporter of the war in Iraq, clinched the Republican nomination.

Clinton's three triumphs ended a month of defeats for the former first lady, and she told jubilant supporters, "We're going on, we're going strong and we're going all the way."

Obama won the Vermont primary, and sought to counter Clinton's claims that the night had been a race-altering event. "We have nearly the same delegate lead as we did this morning and we are on our way to winning this nomination," he told supporters in Texas.

The two rivals also competed for support in caucuses in Texas that began 15 minutes after the state's primary polls closed.

Huckabee Quits Presidential Race

ABC News has learned former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee will concede to Republican nomination rival Senator John McCain, R-Ariz.

But there is no doubt the longshot-turned-contender left his mark on the Republican race.
Calling his White House bid the "journey of a lifetime", Huckabee spoke Tuesday night from Irving, TX commending McCain on an "honorable campaign" and emphasizing his commitment to the Republican party in the fight to the November election.

"We stayed in until the race was over. We kept the faith, that for me has been the most important goal of all," Huckabee said, standing with his wife on stage at the Four Seasons Hotel. " I'd rather lose the election than lose the principles that got me into politics in the first place."
McCain visits President Bush at the White House Wednesday.

Judith Jamison of Alvin Alley American Dance Theater to Retire in 2011

Judith Jamison, artistic director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, announced on Thursday that she would retire in 2011. She plans to maintain her connection to the company, which she joined as a dancer in 1965, as artistic director emerita.

Appointed just weeks after the death of Alvin Ailey, the troupe’s founder, in December 1989, Ms. Jamison (pronounced JAM-ih-son) continued building the organization into what is arguably the world’s most successful modern-dance troupe. Under her leadership, the company built a gleaming new $56 million headquarters at Ninth Avenue and 55th Street in Manhattan.

She informed the Ailey dancers and stage crew late Thursday afternoon in a backstage studio at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, where the troupe is performing as part of a 26-city American tour. In New York, the announcement was made simultaneously by Sharon Gersten Luckman, the company’s executive director, to staff members gathered in a fifth-floor studio at the Ailey building.

Ms. Jamison, 64, said in a telephone interview before her announcement that she and the Ailey board were considering successors from within and outside the Ailey organization.

Planned Parenthood Accepts Money From Overtly Racist Donors

The bizarre video below suggest that Planned Parenthood will accomodate even the most overtly racist donors in order to raise funds for its organization. I want to thank Ron of the blog keepingitrealonline for this one.

Psychopathic Soldier Throws Puppy Off Cliff

The war is clearly taking a psychological toll on our U.S. soldiers in Iraq per one of my earlier entries (click here). A website called jonesreport.com is reporting how the effects of war continue to affect our young men and women on the frontlines. These same behaviors will most certainly be brought back to the U.S. when the troops return. See video clip below.

GET YOUR MONEY FROM THE IRS -THE LETTER IS IN THE MAIL

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Don't be alarmed. More than 130 million households will get letters from the Internal Revenue Service beginning next week and the news is good.
The letters are part of an effort to ensure people do not miss out if they are eligible for a tax rebate check under the recently passed $168 billion economic aide plan.

The IRS is reminding people to file a 2007 tax return so they will receive the payment.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said his department and the IRS would work hard to get the word out. "For the majority of Americans, all they will need to do is file a tax return," Paulson said in a statement.

He said the IRS would work with the Veterans Affairs Department, the Social Security Administration and private groups such as AARP to "reach those who do not normally file a return and ensure they know how to get their stimulus payment this year."

The letters carry the headline "Economic Stimulus Payment Notice" and begin "Dear Taxpayer." They say the IRS is pleased to inform the recipient that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law a plan that will provide payments to more than 130 million households.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said the IRS should focus "its time, energy and money" figuring out how to speed up the mailing of the checks. They are scheduled to go out starting in May.
The mailing that people will get next week tells them they may qualify for a one-time payment of up to $600 for individuals or $1,200 for a married couple filing jointly; there are additional payments of $300 for each qualifying child younger than 17.

"The IRS will figure eligibility, figure the amount and send the payment," the letter says. "This payment should not be confused with any 2007 income tax refund that is owed to you by the federal government."

The 2007 refunds will be made separately from the upcoming payments, the IRS says.
The IRS notices do not seek any financial information and will go to people who filed a tax return last year.

A separate mailing planned by the IRS for late March will go to certain recipients of Social Security and VA benefits. These benefits are generally nontaxable and recipients do not file tax returns.

In order to get a payment, people in this group will need to file a tax return if they received at least $3,000 from a combination of certain Social Security benefits, veterans benefits and earned income. The minimum payment for this group will be $300 for an individual and $600 for a couple filing jointly.

The IRS has created a sample Form 1040A with information on how to fill out the lines necessary to enable eligible people who do not normally file a tax return to receive the stimulus payment. Details on eligibility, payment amounts and requirements can be found at http://www.irs.gov/ which is the agency's Web site.
