DUBAI - OFF LIMITS TO GAYS

Dubai United Arab Emerits (UAE) is the New York of the Middle East...but wealthier and more extravagant. It has become a hot spot for the rich and famous to include hollywood celebrities and music moguls. The metropolis of the Middle East is taking architechtural design into the 21st century and beyond. And while Dubai certainly has its sites set on designing a futuristic city for the world's rich and famous, it's laws and social policies are as ancient as the Koran.

A July 2008, Huffington Post article stated that police in the Gulf tourist hub of Dubai said that they detained 17 foreign men for allegedly being gay and wearing women's clothing in malls and other public places.

Police spokesman Zuhair Horoun said the men were either visiting or working in Dubai. He says they were detained but would not elaborate.

Dubai's Gulf News reported that police detained "40 cross-dressing tourists." The discrepancy in the numbers couldn't immediately be explained.

The paper quotes Dubai's police chief as saying the arrests are part of a campaign against "transvestites."
Despite Dubai's Western outlook, homosexuality is illegal in the Muslim city-state.

Wanda Sykes Is Gay

Comedian Wanda Sykes says the passage of a same-sex marriage ban in California has led her to become more outspoken about being gay. "You know, I don't really talk about my sexual orientation. I didn't feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the closet, but I was living my life," Sykes told a crowd at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas on Saturday.

"Everybody that knows me personally they know I'm gay. But that's the way people should be able to live their lives," she said. Sykes, who is known for her feisty and blunt style, said the passage of California's Proposition 8 made her feel like she was "attacked." "Now, I gotta get in their face," she said. "I'm proud to be a woman. I'm proud to be a black woman, and I'm proud to be gay."

Sykes' appearance at the Las Vegas rally surprised organizers. She was in town performing at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
I know that I am so disappointed that they passed it. If gays and lesbians love each other don’t they have a right to get married? Wanda Sykes being moved about the whole situation has decided to go public and announce she is gay.

BLACKS SCARED STRAIGHT INTO VOTING FOR PROP 8

SCARED STRAIGHT INTO VOTING FOR 8: Are African Americans the most homophobic people in America?

African American voters in California voted overwhelmingly for Prop 8, writing anti-gay discrimination into California’s constitution and banning same-sex marriage.

Seventy percent (70%) of African American voters approved Prop 8, according to exit polls, compared to 53% of Latino voters, 49% of white voters, 49% of Asian voters.

How is it that one of California's smallest minorities (6%) and arguably the most discriminated group in America, "African Americans", could vote to legally discriminate against anyone knowing what we as a people have been through in this country?

It is amazing how the oppressed become the oppressors. So many black church ministers in America have gone rogue (which is nothing new) and launched all out attacks on groups and individuals that don't fit in with their religious views. From Reverend Wright to Pastor Manning, these are just two examples of how everything that is preached in the pulpit isn't about loving your fellow man or uniting and helping the community.

Am I stating that all black churches or black people are bad people? Am I saying that black people are weak and not a strong people? Of course not! What I am stating is that many (if not most) black preachers perpetuate hateful rhetoric against gay people in America and prey on the fears of their church members. (see my blog entry GOD Hates Fags)

Why do people believe that the rights of the minority should be up for popular vote anyway?
Imagine if slavery would have been left up to the vote of the people, black people would still be slaves!

I think that Black people are afraid. As a matter of fact, I believe that black people are the most fearful group in American history. Our ancestors were conditioned by the slave master to be afraid. Christianity was twisted and distorted and used to enslave our ancestors by creating a culture of fear that has been handed down through the generations.

Black churches have (in the name of Jesus) convinced us that if we don't walk right, talk right, dress right, have sex right or vote right, we will go to straight to hell.

Black churches have adopted the same practices handed down from our slave handlers using the bible as a way to keep black people in check and to whip us into submission.
Another manifestation of our fear is self loathing. We see it in statistics about our health, black on black crime, prison incarceration rates and substance abuse, etc.

As a people, many of us are simply embarrassed. So many of us (African Americans) will do whatever it takes to prevent any additional social "strikes" against us. Many of us will even deny others their rights if we believe our chances of getting into heaven will increase.

Many heterosexual black women (who tend to be well represented within black churches) are also afraid that their chances of finding a husband is essentially in jeopardy and that by voting for Prop 8 they will somehow stop the perceived exodus of black men to the gay side and secure a man for themselves.
I believe that if civil rights for certain groups (other than heterosexual black people) were left up to the black majority, there would be a new form of legalized slavery in America, especially in regards to the LGBT community. Denying gay people their rights is a direct insult to everyone that ever fought for civil rights and democracy in America and around the world.

And although the Mormon Church (white folks) played a huge role in raising the money to ensure the success of Prop 8, many black churches in California jumped right on the band wagon by encouraging their members to Vote Yes on the measure.

Barack Obama's experience with Reverend Wright proves my point that Black Churches cancel out the good that they do by preaching hateful and divisive messages from the pulpit and encouraging their congregations to follow suit.

When Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech in Grant Park, he made it clear that America is a multi-fabric cloth that includes gay people. And that their is no room in a progressive America for discrimination of any kind.

Obama is clear that anyone who is against this vision of equality for all is indeed against the very ideals that will heal America and move our nation forward.

I urge black people regardless of your sexual orientation to go out and support your brothers and sisters who are "gay" and stop the oppressive behaviors that have been programmed into the black collective psyche. Can't you see that you are killing your people?

The concepts espoused by Barack Obama, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X are not just for black people, they are words for all oppressed people seeking equality.

Gay and lesbian people in America will have equal rights and it will happen in my lifetime.

Unemployment Climbs To 5 Year High

WASHINGTON — The nation's unemployment rate bolted above the psychologically important 6 percent level last month for the first time in five years _ and it's likely to go even higher in the months ahead, possibly throwing the economy into a tailspin as Americans pick a new president.

A blizzard of pink slips propelled the jobless rate from 5.7 percent in July to 6.1 percent in August, the Labor Department reported Friday. Such a sharp increase is usually a strong recession warning, and it dashed investors' hopes for a late-year recovery.

Worried about the economy and their own business prospects, employers cut payrolls by 84,000 in August, marking the eighth straight month of losses.

So far this year, a staggering 605,000 jobs have vanished _ slightly less than the population of Alaska. The economy needs to generate more than 100,000 new jobs a month for employment to remain stable.

Richard Yamarone, economist at Argus Research, feared that the jobless rate would cause consumers and businesses to "move from a moderately concerned stage to outright fear" and reduce their spending even more.

Death of Jennifer Hudson's nephew confirmed

CHICAGO - A body found in an SUV is that of Jennifer Hudson's missing 7-year-old nephew, the focus of a desperate search since the Oscar winner's mother and brother were found shot to death in their home three days earlier, police said Monday.

Chicago police said the body of a black male child was found shortly after 7 a.m. in the rear seat of an SUV. It was later confirmed to be that of Julian King.

The SUV was found parked on the street in a neighborhood of brownstone homes and apartment buildings, and matched the one sought in an Amber Alert issued after Hudson's mother and brother were found slain Friday, police Cmdr. Wayne Gulliford said.

Assassination plot targeting Obama disrupted

US government agents say they have thwarted a plan by two conspirators to kill the White House front-runner and shoot or decapitate 102 black people.
The plot is understood to centre on Tennessee where Martin Luther King was assassinated exactly 40 years ago.

Details of the conspiracy were contained in court records unsealed on Monday by members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – America's specialist law enforcement agency.

ATF agents said they disrupted plans by white supremacists to rob a firearms store and attack a predominantly black school. According to the ATF, the men planned to go on a killing spree across the United States with Mr Obama, the Democratic nominee who is poised to become the country's first black president, as their final target.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office of the ATF said the two skinheads planned to shoot 88 black people and decapitate another 14. The numbers 88 and 14 are held to be symbolic by white supremacists and relate to nationalist leader David Lane as well as Adolf Hitler.

Details of the alleged plot emerged just before Mr Obama arrived in Pittsburgh for a campaign rally after an earlier visit to Canton, Ohio.

Advisers remained tight lipped but said there were no plans for the candidate to make any reference to the ATF's announcement.

It was not known how detailed the alleged plot was, how far advanced it was or how feasible the plan. Agents said that the two men did not identify the school by name.
"They said that would be their last, final act – that they would attempt to kill Sen Obama," said Mr Cavanaugh. "They didn't believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying."

Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother killed - reports

By Michael Conlon
CHICAGO (Reuters) - The mother and brother of Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson were found shot to death in the mother's Chicago home on Friday, according to published reports.

The Chicago Tribune Web site quoted a police source as saying the suspect in the double homicide was in custody, but a 7-year-old boy, possibly Hudson's nephew, was still missing from the house on Chicago's South Side, where the victims were found. Police did not confirm the report or the names of the victims.

The Tribune said the Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victims as Hudson's mother, Darnell Donnerson, 57, and her brother Jason Hudson, 29.
Police said neighbors reported hearing shots in the area during the morning, but the bodies were not found until midafternoon.

"A missing child was possibly abducted from the scene ... and may be in the company of William Balfour, a suspect in the double homicide investigation," police said in a statement, adding that the man was "considered armed and dangerous."

The statement listed two vehicles Balfour may be driving. It did not say who Balfour was or whether he was related to the family.

The Illinois Department of Corrections Web site lists Balfour, 27, as having been convicted of attempted murder, car theft and vehicular hijacking. He was released from prison in 2006.
Police said the child was identified as Julian King, adding they believed he was the grandson of the woman found slain. Continued >>>

Rodney King enters "Celebrity Rehab"

ON PROMINENT display in Rodney King's suburban Rialto home is a framed photograph -- a reminder of his role in one of the most incendiary chapters in Los Angeles history.

The close-up of a bulky, nervous King was taken during a 1992 press conference days after rage and violence swept across the city following the acquittal of four Los Angeles Police Department officers who were charged with violating King's civil rights. The picture was snapped just as he made his memorable plea for calm amid rioting that ultimately led to 54 deaths, more than 2,300 injuries and 12,000 arrests: “People, I just want to say — Can we all get along? Can we get along?”

In the more than 16 years since, King continues to ask himself that very same, very simple and profound question. His own path since becoming an unwitting symbol of police brutality to some and a habitual petty criminal to others has been filled with tumult.

Now, although he had tried to maintain a low profile, King is again willingly putting himself -- and his demons -- front and center in VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," which launches its second season Oct. 23. The series is billed as television's first examination of the rehabilitation process and features Drew Pinsky, the low-key celebrity physician who is well known for his nationally syndicated radio call-in show, "Loveline." Pinsky is head of the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Pasadena's Las Encinas Hospital.

King said he appeared on the show to demonstrate that he has reformed and that he is not the cowering victim in the grainy videotape. Most of all, he did it to reclaim his name. "Over the years, a lot of rappers -- Lil’ Wayne, Ice Cube -- have used my name in their songs," said the 43-year-old King, who had his first drink when he was 8. "I'm a real touchstone of history.

"But they don't know me as a person. I understand the hurt, and now I'm seeking help for myself. Putting myself out there is a good way for me to overcome the addiction. I want my kids to understand me, and it was easier to show them by being on TV."

GAY PRIEST OPPOSES PROP 8 GETS FIRED

A week ago, Father Geoffrey Farrow stood before his Roman Catholic parishioners in Fresno and delivered a sermon that placed him squarely at odds with his church over gay marriage.

With Proposition 8 on the November ballot, and his own bishop urging Central Valley priests to support its definition of traditional marriage, Farrow told congregants he felt obligated to break "a numbing silence" about church prejudice against homosexuals.

"How is marriage protected by intimidating gay and lesbian people into loveless and lonely lives?" he asked parishioners of the St. Paul Newman Center. "I am morally compelled to vote no on Proposition 8."

Then Farrow -- who had revealed that he was gay during a television interview immediately before Mass -- added a coda to his sermon.

"I know these words of truth will cost me dearly," he said. "But to withhold them . . . I would become an accomplice to a moral evil that strips gay and lesbian people not only of their civil rights but of their human dignity as well."

On Thursday, Fresno Bishop John T. Steinbock removed Farrow, 50, as pastor of the St. Paul Newman Center, which primarily serves students and faculty at Cal State Fresno.

"Your statement contradicted the teaching of the Catholic Church and has brought scandal to your parish community as well as the whole Church," Steinbock wrote in a disciplinary letter that also admonished Farrow against "using the Internet as a means of continuing your conflict with the Church's teaching."

The priest also was stripped of his salary and benefits, and ordered to stay away from all church communities he had served.
